Ruth Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the oldest of the three daughters of Lithuanian-Jewish parents Mary Pauline (Gold) and Abraham Roman. When she was a young girl, Roman's carnival-barker father passed away and caused her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as an attendant or cleaner to help them survive. Ruth grew in a poor Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She went to school in Boston. But she quit school in the span of two years in order to pursue an acting career. Her journey was not without obstacles. her path to success. Then, in New York she was hired to take photos for a magazine about crime however, no theatre opportunities were offered. Following a short time as a club hat girl, she decided to return home and quit her position. The city of Boston was where she worked during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and the rest of the time, was an usherette. Also, she studied drama. She ultimately graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
